We have had an epic winter here in the Sierras this year, cumulative totals so far in the Tahoe area upwards of 600 inches! This created some interesting driving conditions, the Carson Pass in particular had walls of snow three times the height of most vehicles. At Kirkwood Ski area the streets and walkways were like canyons and trenches.
At both ends of this section of road we are warned, no parking, no stopping, and no pedestrians. So there would be no setting up my painting gear, not that I would want to linger there anyway.
I did manage to collect a treasure trove of pictures as we cruised through one of my very favorite drives through Hope Valley and over Carson Pass. Between the deep snow, steep mountain sides, and brilliant alpenglow I feel inspired every time I look at those pictures, or drive through there.
