Taylor Creek is where you will find the stream profile to view Kokanee salmon spawning in the fall, and possibly the black bears who gather to feast on the dying fish. If you follow the Rainbow Trail toward the lake you will end your walk at Kiva Beach.
Kiva Beach is one of the few beaches here where we can bring our dogs to play, so we enjoy bringing our puppy here quite often. On this day I had planned to paint while my husband walked the dog.
I walked around and chose my composition, set up my easel with the umbrella to shade out the glare, did a thumbnail sketch, and began to sketch onto my panel. As soon as I was ready to start painting the wind came up and it turned from a bluebird spring day to an icy tempest. The wind blew my umbrella inside out and while I was attempting to fix that, my easel blew over. If I had worn a jacket I may have decided to hang in there, instead I packed it up and chalked it up to another lesson about who really is the boss around here.
However I did not give up on my painting and got to work in the comfort of my house while the inspiration was still fresh. This was done in April so there are no salmon yet. There are bears here year round though they are mostly out at night so we don't see them as often as when the salmon are running. I did add a bear to this painting even though there wasn't one on this day, because I always hope and imagine that one will be there. He is small, see if you can find him.
