Went to the High Sierra Iris and Wedding gardens with the Tahoe Art League plein air group on May 16th, and completed this painting mid june.
It was a beautiful day, yet quite warm, a bit of a shock coming down from Tahoe, but well worth the tolerating. Everywhere there were flowers blooming in profusion and their sweet scent in the air. This pond was full of large koi fish who peered up at me hoping I would toss them some treats, sorry guys I had nothing to offer them.
I chose this composition because I love the reflection of the sky in the water, and the way the lily pads seem suspended in space. A tree to the left was sprinkling it's flower petals onto the surface of the water to create a bit of sparkle, which I thanked it for by adding them to my picture.
